Fascinated by the abstract expressionism movements (Willem De Kooning, Jackson Pollock particularly), the works of Vassily Kandinsky and Gerhard Richter, Kay Jay started painting when she realized how painting and philosophy were closely interwoven, intimately connected. As a person, she is always on the run and cannot stay still for long. This is therefore natural that movement be at the centre of her artwork. Interestingly the activity of painting forces stillness upon her and actually allows her to express her inner turmoil and restlessness in her work. She invites the spectator to actually take time and enjoy the present (here and now), take a pause whilst gazing at her artwork. He or she can give free rein to his or her own imagination while plunging into Kay Jays world. This is key to the artist to grant freedom of interpretation and representation to the spectator, to appeal to the unconscious part the human being. This is the reason why all her work is abstract and free of any social code or reference. The purpose of her artwork is to ignite a connection, to convey an emotion, a pleasant feeling, trigger thoughts and have people reflect on themselves, their lives and the world in general… just like what a philosophical book would :-) She hopes you will enjoy the journey.
